Windows Permissions – Run As Administrator

This issue should only apply to desktop software.

On some recent windows updates (8.1), a few users have had the following issue:

Issue
Click on shortcut for app, and nothing happens.  App does not even show up in Task Manager.

Cause
Windows requires administrative privileges for the user.

Solution
Elevate app permissions as follows:

1.  Right-click on the app shortcut and select Properties
2.  Click on the Compatibility tab
3.  Check the: Run this program as an administrator
4.  Click Apply, then OK

This may now bring up the annoying User Account Control window when you try and run the app.

Options now are:

1.  Keep the UAC as is and go thru this window with every app run
2.  White-list the app as described here
3.  Change / reduce the notify level in User Account Control Settings (see images below)

When UAC appears:

1. Click Show more details
2. Click Change when notifications appear
3. Reduce the notification level to: Never notify (Note: this option is totally up to you)

If you wish to keep the UAC prompts and are somewhat tech savvy, visit this link as the other option.
Disclaimer:  Microsoft recommends using the UAC.
