Easy Backup allows you to click a button and all files that are either NEW or CHANGED, since the last backup, will be copied over to your external backup drive or cloud.

External Drive Select

All external drives will show. Just select the letter of your backup drive, one with adequate free space.

Most modern machines use drive D:\ as a recovery drive, so we do not include it in the drive list.  If for some reason, your recovery drive D does not exist and your attached external drive is assigned to drive D, then you need to manually type it in under Destination in the right sided panel, like this:  D:\

Source Directory

Your source directory will be on your computer and the target directories will be on your external backup drive.

Source Directories:

1.  Desktop
2.  Documents
3.  Pictures
4.  Music
5.  Videos

Target Directories:

These will be automatically created in your backup drive.  They will be located in a root folder:

X:\Complok\

Where ‘X:\’  is the letter assigned by windows to your external drive.

Source Example:  C:\Users\<username here>\Documents
Target Example:  G:\Complok\Documents

Backup Drive Letters

If you only have 1 external drive connected, the assigned letter will probably not change.  Windows can and will change these letters at will.  If you disconnect/reconnect the drive, it can change. In that event, just re-select the drive letter in the list and it will work.

Cloud Backup Option

If you have a cloud already setup, you can also do backups to the cloud.  Just check the, Use cloud, not drive, option and set the cloud folder path.

Backup Errors

On completion of a copy, the Details window will show how may files were copied, not copied, and any error files (again, not copied).

The first time you do a full backup, it will take time and there may be some error files. The usual cause of errors is access violations (permissions) or a file that is in use.  Try and close all open programs before a backup.

Click then on the Backup Errors tab to see a listing of these files. If you note, that these files are not important, then disregard these errors.

Common Causes

1.  File is Read-Only
2.  File is a Hidden File
3.  File attribute set to: Ready for archiving
4.  Improper security permissions
5.  File is In Use
6.  File name too long

Solutions

Right-click on the file, select Properties, and:

1.  Check Attributes for Read-only and uncheck if is, then Apply
2.  Check Attributes for Hidden and uncheck if is, then Apply
3.  Click Attributes Advanced button, and uncheck File is ready for archiving
4.  Click the Security tab and change permissions
5.  When you run Easy Backup, right-click on desktop shortcut and select Run as administrator
(This option may come up right away, or may be under the Compatibility tab)

Photo Renamer

When you download the photos from your mobile or digital camera, that have really cool names, like:

DCSN0723.jpg,  DCNS0724.jpg, and so on……………

So, wouldn’t it be nice for the entire download set to have a friendly, meaningful name?

Photo Renamer will accomplish this for you and more.

Here are the steps:

Step 1:  Select Source Folder

Use the Browse button to browse and select the folder

Step 2:  Choose Options

Option: Order by Date/Time

Select this option to rename in the order of each photo’s Date/Time stamp.

Option: Re-size photos

Check the box and select a new size (horizontal) for all the new pictures. This can be helpful to ‘downsize’ photos for emailing.

Option: JPG Compression

Check the box and select a compression percentage. This will compress JPG type files only.
This can also be helpful to downsize photos for emailing.

All photos that were compressed will be in a new sub-folder in your source folder called: Compressed

Step 3:  Select New Base Name, Starting Number, Rename options

Example here would be if your photo set was for a birthday. A new base name could be: JohnBirthday. Then select a start number to increment your photos up from.

If say, you had 46 photos and selected a starting number of 1, then they would all have names of: JohnBirthday_1.jpg, JohnBirthday_2.jpg, JohnBirthday_3.jpg, JohnBirthday_4.jpg, etc.

Options here include:

  1.  Rename all
  2.  Rename all, except photos beginning with a certain string of characters
  3.  Rename all, if only begin with a certain string of characters

Step 4:  Rename

Click the Rename button to perform the rename. Your renamed photos will now be in your source folder’s sub-folder.

Your originals will be found in the Originals sub-folder of your source folder.

File Scanner

This utility will scan your entire computer for any new or changed files between the dates selected.

There may be a day when suddenly everything goes wrong on your machine.

It could be a good idea to see if there have been any new files placed on your computer.

Simply choose a start and end date and press the Start button and the full scan will begin.

Results

There will be several thousand files found, even for a 1 day search. You can scroll thru them, and see what files could be an issue.

Press the Save button to save the listing to a file that you could give to your PC repair guy if needed.
